UTS Central

A flexible wayfinding system for an unmissable, light-filled landmark

UTS Central

Broadway, Ultimo NSW 2007
BRIEF
With its translucent glass façade and gently twisting tower, UTS Central is an unmissable landmark on Broadway – a spectacular 17-storey building designed by FJMT with original podium design by Lacoste+Stevenson with DJRD. As wayfinding consultants, we needed to say a lot with a limited number of signs to honour the building’s porous, light-filled structure, while making the signage system flexible enough to allow frequent updates over time.
SOLUTION
We worked closely with FJMT to customise floor-to-ceiling signs that integrate seamlessly with the beautiful wood panelling. Parts of each sign are replaceable, making them easy to update, while a suite of digital touchpoints are instantly updatable. To reduce pressure on the building’s lifts, BrandCulture devised a strategy to guide people towards UTS Central’s distinctive double-helix staircase and escalators.

Our digital engagement strategy identifies key locations for digital screens that speak to Broadway’s passers-by, elevating the UTS brand through the fabric of the built environment. The building becomes a canvas for digital artworks, reflecting the university’s values as a leading university of technology with global impact. UTS Central is the final significant project to be delivered as part of the billion-dollar-plus UTS City Campus Master Plan.
