Our top picks from DesignBUILD 2019

This week, our designers spent an afternoon at DesignBUILD – the largest design and construction trade expo in Australia. Here’s what caught our eye.

DesignBUILD is a trade show that brings together the best product and materials suppliers for the built environment. There were probably fewer innovations that caught our eye this year compared to last, but we still saw lots of materials and finishes that we’d love the opportunity to work with soon.

Non-toxic wall art & colourful acoustics

It was great to see so many products being reimagined to be more environmentally friendly. One of our favourite innovations was XLArt by Senses Direct – wallpaper and wall coverings that can be applied and repositioned with water, which means no nasty glues or toxins. XLArt makes it easy to apply environmental graphics using only the simplest of tools. Apparently, it’s being used in a lot of hospitals because it contains no toxic materials, yet is highly durable.

We also loved Jacaranda Industries’s ornate finishes. This Melbourne company supplies and installs commercial joinery, specialised finishes and acoustic solutions. From bespoke sculptural joinery to exquisite wall panelling, their work helps to create such memorable, captivating spaces.

Jacaranda Industries also distributes Novawall. These acoustic wall panels can be personalised using (virtually) infinite combinations of colours, graphics and colours.

We loved the different textures and polishes being created by Rimex Metals Australia. It’s fun to imagine how we might use Shuolong’s beautiful wire mesh and chain link curtains, which can be used to create really elegant yet playful environments.

Setting the new standard at DesignBUILD

For over three decades, DesignBUILD has been the only trade event dedicated to showcasing the latest in design and construction product and materials.

The expo is a great opportunity to keep an eye on the latest construction innovations and architectural trends, and connect with other industry professionals. Perhaps we’ll see you there next year!
