Rosenthal Project

Growing a new (car) park

Rosenthal Project

Lane Cove, NSW, 2066
Brief
Lane Cove Council is redeveloping Rosenthal Avenue Car Park into a vibrant community space featuring a rooftop park, picnic area, performance stage and children’s play areas. It was our job to inform the public about what’s going on, minimising disruption caused by the closure of the main car park servicing the town centre. Our wayfinding strategy also needed to support the visibility of local businesses over this period.
Solution
By observing the behaviour of local residents, we devised a strategy for redirecting them to previously under-utilised car parks. Our brightly-patterned wayfinding system also provides a playful platform for project updates, and lifts the profile of arcades connecting to the site to support the shops and businesses within.

We’re especially proud that our designs are flexible and temporary – by ‘re-skinning’ totems and applying designs to existing infrastructure, Lane Cove Council can simply update the skins as the project evolves, and remove them entirely when the project is complete.
