Working with Burwood Council, we channelled our inner-bookworms and designed a modern library environment ideal for contemplation, discovery and learning.
Wayfinding plays an essential role within libraries, so we created colored timber directories that make it easy for visitors to find whatever they’re searching for. At the library’s entrance, two illuminated stacked books create the letter ‘B’ in Burwood, giving the library an immediate presence day and night. We photographed local gum trees and leaves, and crafted these into glass graphics, which stretch the entire height of the library. One of life’s simplest pleasures is reading a good book under a tall tree, so we crafted a “reading tree” from plywood and a gum leaf canopy – the perfect place to let your imagination roam free.
