On a recent team trip to Canberra, BrandCulture had the pleasure of visiting the Australian War Memorial. This beautifully built structure consists of a shrine, a museum and an extensive archive, which when grouped together creates a world-class experiential design piece with cutting edge interactive experiences.
The Memorial’s purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war. Its mission is to create personal, interpretive stories for visitors to understand the Australian experience of war and its enduring impact on Australian society.
Every area within this monumental piece of architecture has been carefully considered to deliver an exceptionally emotional experience. Destinations are enhanced by delicate details in materiality and design, the ambient soundscape blends effortlessly to guide the user from each display to the next.
The War Memorials digital interactive and multimedia suite is seamlessly integrated throughout the exhibition, complementing artefacts and supporting narratives to inform and immerse the user. We were captivated, and moved, by the interactive Gallipoli Touch wall (above), a digital display that uses existing archival aerial imagery mapped onto topographical geometry with multiple users being able to interactively explore the Gallipoli region.
Lest we forget.
